My Surreal Girl is also my first time to be a supermodel. In fact, the biggest thing about being a model is the exposure. It’s really giving back to the community, and being a model from Asia is something really special and unique. It’s a brand we are really proud of, too, in terms of how a standard of living like being a model is viewed as a positive image in my home country. I hope my work will help promote some new traditional values in the fashion industry.
What do you think attracts the customers?
What I love about the Surreal Girls brand is the unpredictability of their characteristics. Some are very tough, while others are sensitive or sentimental. That’s why I want our customers to look at the different aspects of our characters. I want to be able to bring out the charm and innocence of the customer, who can see our characters as something they feel comfortable with. But since we’ve been known for our glamour and sexy characters, we can see how customers crave that side of the brand. But our brand is more than just that. Since we’ve been bringing out a positive message about people who have faced situations like the Surreal Girls, customers feel something positive from us.
How do you maintain a healthy balance between promoting your brand and being an artist?
I think it’s really important for me to be able to have that balance. In fact, I think we had a lot of success because of this balance. In fact, I remember we did a photoshoot with a girl who became a girl icon in the Philippines. I’m really thankful for that, since that was really something that came out of a genuine connection. In fact, I think the best models are the ones with that dual sense of being a model and being their own artists.
You’ve done some work with perfumes and makeup.
I think my first experience with that was because we needed a model for something we were producing for perfumes and makeup. So I basically had to do makeup, which was something I hadn’t done before. At the same time, I was working at a cafe, as you know, and my customers would often ask me for my work. I realized that these were the feelings that customers had after seeing me in magazines, right before I began modeling. So the first time I did modeling, I did a perfume campaign
